Kalamazoo, by Michelle Kholos Brooks and Kelly Younger, is the second readers theatre show for By the Sea Productions 2018 season, playing for one weekend only, April 20-22.
What do you do when you lose your spouse in the middle of your ‘golden years? If you’re Peg and Irving, you join the Silver Foxes dating service and describe your ideal mate. While the resulting date match is not what either expected, things start to look rosier after a few margaritas. The morning after, and its aftermath prove that sometimes the absolutely wrong person is actually just right.
This funny, charming play is directed by John Mackey. An actor himself, John has appeared in numerous local productions, including Singing in the Rain, The Music Man, Cabaret, Company and Gypsy.
Kalamazoo’s two-person cast features Tom Ammon and Janice Peters, both familiar faces to Central Coast audiences. Tom appeared in By the Sea Productions 2017 debut show, On Golden Pond, and Janice most recently played in 2018’s opening show Exit Laughing.
Of his cast, John says, “This is an amazing opportunity to work with two seasoned actors who I respect and admire. I’ve worked with Tom in several productions at SLOREP, most recently Our Town, and directed Janice last year in Doublewide Texas at Cambria’s CCAT theater. I know audiences will enjoy them in this humorous tale of love, loss and learning to love again.”
Kalamazoo is being performed for one weekend only, April 20-22, with evening performances at 7 pm and a Sunday matinee at 3 pm. Tickets are only $10 and may be purchased at the door or online at bytheseaproductions.org. For more information, call 805-776-3287.
